The spectacle offered by the buck deer is a sight to behold and to hear.
The quietness of the morning and the tranquility of the sunsets in the beautiful landscapes of the mountains of the Sierra de Bastetana during the rutting season have a special attraction.
The rut usually lasts a little over a month (between September and October). The males are already bellowing to get hold of a harem of females that will give birth to their offspring in eight months.
To see and hear the bellowing where the deer fight with antlers, one has to move to areas of Narvaez-La Canaleja high, El Raposo, the area of Los Gomez, the Cerro de la Virgen, the area of Cortijo de Santaolalla and Medina, in the lower part or in the vicinity of the forest of the Centennial Poplars are good places to attend the courtship of bellowing and clash of antlers.
In all these excursions it is advisable to be well camouflaged so as not to scare the deer. In addition to the spectacle of the bellowing, the best times are early in the morning or late at night, there is also the clash of antlers, a ritual worth contemplating. On these trips it is essential to be accompanied by binoculars, comfortable clothes and a desire to enjoy nature.
